DLR German Aerospace Center

The DLR German Aerospace Center is the national aeronautics and space research centre of the Federal Republic of Germany. Its extensive research and development work in aeronautics, space, energy, transport and security is integrated into national and international cooperative ventures.

Within the AEROFLEX project, the main task of DLR Institute of Transport Research is to identify new vehicle concepts with a high market potential and estimate changes to the truck fleet and modal shift due to these vehicle concepts. The institute has the lead in WP1. DLR will identify possible improvements of loading units from an intermodal perspective (WP4) and analyse regulations and standards in logistics with relevance for vehicle concepts (WP7). In this project a transport demand model for freight transport in Europe is used to calculate the impact of several transport parameters on modal split and vehicle kilometers.
